Â鶹´«Ã½ Digital Engagement Reaches New High
Â鶹´«Ã½, the UK’s leading local media group, has reported another digital high with a record 190 million articles read on its local news sites in January, an increase of 5% on the same month last year.  Â
There was a total of 53 million online visitors and 275 million page views on the Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s sites in January.
The company’s most read website in January was the Eastern Daily Press with 9 million article page views.
In addition, the company’s digital subscription’s strategy continues to go from strength to strength, with a total of 113,000 monthly paying digital subscribers in January, up 31% on the same month last year.
Â鶹´«Ã½ launched soft pay walls on most of its larger sites in 2020. Online visitors can typically read up to 30 articles a month before paying, although a small number of articles are subscriber only. A digital subscription, which is typically priced at £4.99 per month, includes access to all the site’s content in an ad light environment as well as an e-edition of the print paper.Â
Henry Faure Walker, CEO of Â鶹´«Ã½, commented:
“The demand for our journalism continues to grow with the 53 million visitors to the Â鶹´«Ã½ sites in January reading a record number of articles.Â
“The results from digital subs continue to exceed our expectations and reinforce our view that soft pay walls are a fundamental part of our local news business model, alongside our successful advertising business.     Â
“Once again these audience figures underline the phenomenal demand for trusted local news and the power of Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s local platforms which now typically reach more than 75% of local people each month.â€
Â鶹´«Ã½ publishes over 200 titles across the UK.
